Kernel Panics are most often times caused by hardware problems. Unplug 
everything from the computer, except power, and try booting it. You can also 
try removing one RAM module, then the other, to rule out the RAM as a problem. 
Since you mentioned you were trying to use a third party wireless device, that 
could be the source of your problem, either the hardware or the software from 
it. I haven't had much luck with USB wireless adapters; they always seem to 
come with terrible software.

As for re-loading Panther, you mentioned you used a PowerMac G4. Just go the 
other way; stick the iMac in target disk mode, boot the G4 on the DVD, and 
install it to the Firewire device from the installer. (on the G4.) That should 
work. You might try performing an archive and install, so it preserves your 
user settings.
