Just about the only thing I can think of is snapz pro which allows screen capture. Might be a little CPU intensive. I'm not certain that the streaming sites like hulu and netflix don't have some kind of prohibitive code running that blocks it. I do know that I have had no luck with quicktime x's screen recording with those sites.

Thanks, but I am looking for a solution off the internet, not TV.
Earlier this year, when I looked at Elgato, they had nothing to work
with Verizon FiOS TV.  I do have the FiOS DVR, but it cannot support a
direct connection to any backup device.
