from the link I provided to you it looks like 1GB is the maximun allowable, you may try at your own rick/expense if it supports/reads more RAM

My iMac already has 1GB installed in it, how about getting it to work with 2GB?

When Apple releases a new model, it usually specs the RAM at what is the largest size module available for the type of RAM used. Later, larger sizes may be release by RAM vendors; these larger sizes may or may not be recognized by the computer. Some times the computer will recognize the larger module in only certain slots. Bottom line is that you could try a 1 GB module in the user slot and if that works you'd have 1.5 GB of RAM. Then if you desire you could try it in the service slot to get up to 2 GB (or you may only get 1.768 GB)
