Recently my ipod touch isn't being recognized by itunes when I plug it
into the usb. I usually charge the ipod on a wall charger, and haven't
needed to sync new music on it in awhile, so I don't know if the issue
could be from itunes itself (one of the updates from the past year?)
or something else.
I took the ipod and its cord to a local mac store a month ago, and
they said there's nothing wrong with either, so it was likely a
computer issue. No one had any ideas of what to do, and I had already
tried the things suggested on Apple's site. One guy said to try
resetting the PRAM, which I did, and the ipod showed up.
Today, it didn't show up in itunes again, no matter what I did. I
called the store to see if someone else might know why this is
happening, and the kid said "something in your computer is probably
dying". (yikes!)
I ran Tech Tool Deluxe, to see if anything would show up there, and
everything passed the tests it ran.
I'm wondering if it's possible there is something indeed wrong with
the computer, or if an iTunes update is maybe causing this glitch?
What can I do to ascertain whether it's a software or hardware issue?

Here are the specs:
iMac autumn 2006 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
OSX Tiger 10.4.11
iTunes updated to 9.2.1
2nd generation iPod Touch, updated to version 3.1.3

Thank you,
Cat
