I had the same symptoms on my iBook G3/500MHz. The card would seem alright for like 30 seconds and then lose sight of all networks, even if I was rightnext to the router. I made sure all the physical connections were solid, but the problem persisted. I pulled the card and replaced it with an Airport card from my iMac G3/600MHz and it worked perfectly. I took the broken card and stuck it in my iMac just to make sure and the iMac had the same problem. I think the card has just failed, probably due to overheating.
