I suspect you installed 10.5 on a PowerPC system (that has to be a G4 iMac if you have to mess with the reported speed to get 10.5 installed) mounted as a drive on an Intel system (your MacBook). Your iMac won't boot because it's got the wrong architecture. (and likely wrong disk partition type) Your solution is to find an external DVD drive, copy the 10.5 installer to a USB thumb drive (see <http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20101011105729488>), or fix the internal drive on the iMac. Now it's worth a try, because I've seen conflicting reports on this, to see if you can stick the DVD in your MacBook, boot IT in target mode, connect it to the iMac, and try booting the iMac.
