right after I'm finished here. 
Dan, you're right, I was trying things that the tech at the local mac 
sellers said to do, (she said repair permissions, and reinstall the OS, and 
that if that didn't work, I'd need to bring it to them for  deeper 
diagnostics). 

Okay, now I'm going to try pasting a few snippets from Console, in hopes it 
will tell us something useful (not sure which exact things to select, but 
hope some of this is okay):
