I’m looking for suggestions for buying a used iMac. It's for my
mother-in-law -- she is 91 years young, very short and has bi-focal
glasses. She does not need a lot of processing power -- just a good screen.
The key criteria is that the screen has to sit very LOW on her desk so she
can sit and look directly at the screen and not have to tilt her head
"upward". Since I have to maintain it, I also want it to be upgradeable as
far as Yosemite.

She has been using an old 2003 Mac G4 “Dome” for years -- email, games and
web browsing. It runs OK, but it is old and slow. When I tried to set up a
new Google Gmail account for her, Google flashed a message saying her
browser is too old and must be updated. Unfortunately, it is maxed out at
OS 10.4 and both Safari and Firefox have reached the limit on upgrades. I
am thinking we should buy her a good quality, USED iMac. But, I don't have
any experience with iMac's. (I've used a Macbook Pro for many years.)
Here's what I think we should get her:

   - 2010-2012 Intel-based 21" model so it can be upgraded to Mavericks or
   Yosemite.
   - fully tested / certified to be in good condition.
   - 2-4GB Ram
   - minimum size hard drive
   - comes with a keyboard and mouse.

I’m willing to pay $350 +/-. Any recommendations or advice on which model
iMac to buy? Where to get it? Are there models we should avoid?

Cheers,
Mac
