That's a good idea, using USB thumb drives. DVDs do go bad, unfortunately. I have a recording of our band's first outing, I made mp3s of the Individual songs but didn't keep the original file on the hard drive. I can see where the data is on the disc but is shows up as empty on all of our devices.
I also have install DVDs of every version of Mac OS I have used, I hope they are OK....
