IT RAINED ON MY THREE MACBOOKS!!

I’m really devastated after a moment’s carelessness has resulted in all
three of my MacBooks getting soaked by rain! I’m so careful and keep
telling people never to put drinks on the same surface as a computer. I’ve
also read a lot about “liquid damage” on Apple products which makes me
think that they’re specially designed by Apple to be more sensitive to
liquids, to make them break down and try to get Apple users to buy new
ones. I can’t believe this has happened to me. I wouldn’t have had it
happen for the World, but unfortunately one thing changed in my home a few
days ago which has caused this.

I should explain that I’m living in a place with only skylights instead or
normal windows. They’re by a company called VELUX who I despise for making
them the way they are. I wasn’t able to open these until finally getting a
special pole designed for them, which arrived only a few days ago after
over ten months of living like that. This meant there was no real
ventilation and it felt fairly stuffy. I was also infested with small flies
which fly spray didn’t get rid of, so I also got a solid fly killer
containing Citronella, which I heard is banned from being advertised as an
insecticide, only as a perfume, so it sounded really good. It works, up to
a point!

I was waiting five hours for an engineer to come and fix a problem with my
Broadband and phone. I had the skylight in the living room open to
encourage the remaining flies to leave. During all that time, no one came!
I was sitting in a chair for most of the time, using one of my three Macs,
while the other two Macs were closed and on top of each other on another
chair. After all this, I felt like I needed to go and lie down in bed for a
little while.

I can’t remember how long I was lying in bed. I got up and went back into
the living room. When I arrived there, I got a big shock to see that it was
raining through the skylight! The MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 8Gb RAM) had been
soaked by rainwater and there was also rainwater on my MacBook Air (early
2014), as well as on my other MacBook Pro (mid 2012, with 4Gb RAM)! I was
shocked that I didn’t hear the rain falling onto the closed bedroom
skylight.

I immediately took action by closing the living room skylight and placing
the Macs keyboards facing down onto the sofa. After this, I tried to turn
on each Mac and found out that only the MacBook Pro (mid 2012, with 4Gb
RAM) would turn on. This is what I’m using to type this now.

I recently bought lots of screwdrivers of various types to enable me to
unscrew all of my Macs and upgrade one of the MacBook Pro (mid 2012)
computers. Unfortunately, it seems that none of these screwdrivers will
work on the MacBook Air (early 2014) screws, so it looks like I’ll have to
go shopping locally for the right screwdriver tomorrow. I read it’s called
a Pentalobe P5, but I think this may also be another name for a type of hex
key.

The MacBook Air (early 2014) shows no sign of life and the charger light
doesn’t come on when plugged in.

I’ve unscrewed the bottom of the MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 8Gb) and found some
water on the bottom of the Logic Board, which I’ve soaked up using kitchen
paper, but obviously there must be some more water inside this computer on
the other side of the Logic Board for it to get there in the first place.

I really need some advice about what I can do to save at least one of my
two Macs that won’t currently turn on. I don’t think that the MacBook Pro
(mid 2012) model is supported for repairs by Apple any more. As for the
MacBook Air (early 2014), it officially runs Big Sur and I think it’s
supported by Apple for repairs, but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories
about this. I bought this MacBook Air for about $400, so I’m fairly sure
that an Apple repairer would charge me more than that to repair it. In that
case, it would be better just to buy another one from eBay.

While typing this message, I’ve found out that there are problems with my
MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 4Gb). These problems are not only affecting the
built in keyboard and trackpad, but even a USB keyboard and a mouse I’ve
plugged in. Lots of keys on the lower row of the internal keyboard don’t
seem to be working and it now seems quite difficult just to click on
anything using the trackpad or even the USB mouse. A normal click usually
comes up as a right click! I’ve had to turn on Accessibility/Mouse Keys and
use the 5 key on my USB keyboard numeric keypad instead.

I hope someone can help me! It was just a stupid mistake. Surely I haven’t
destroyed two of my Macs and ruined the input on the other one? What can I
do now?! Please help me!
