I did it this way:
sequence = []
for s in range(steps):
im = scipy.misc.toimage(arr, cmin=0, cmax=255, high = 255, low = 0,
pal=colorMap(), mode='P')
im = im.transpose(Image.FLIP_TOP_BOTTOM)
sequence.append(im)
fp = open(sys.argv[4], "wb")
gifmaker.makedelta(fp, sequence)
fp.close()
