Subject: [IMail Forum] Store and Forward problem
We are trying to configure IMail 4.07 as a backup server as per the
Knowledge Base instructions, but it's simply not working.
We have set up DNS as follows:
cport.com IN MX 10 mail.cport.com.
cport.com IN MX 20 mail2.cport.com.
@ IN A 216.132.67.3
mail IN A 216.132.67.3
mail2 IN A 216.132.67.72
In the hosts file on mail2, I have the entry:
216.132.67.3 cport.com
Both machines have permission to talk to one another.
The domain cport.com is not configured on mail2.cport.com, but is on
mail.cport.com. Does it have to be? I saw a message on the list at one
time, that stated that the destination domain should not be referenced in
any way in IMail on the backup server. However, that might explain why the
backup server does not want to accept mail for the cport.com domain.
I believe the DNS is fine because other servers attempt to deliver to
mail2.cport.com when mail.cport.com is busy. However, mail2.cport.com will
not store mail for cport.com addressees. The mail is being rejected with an
"unknown user" (550?) error for every account.
With this configuration, I would expect mail for cport.com to be stored on
mail2.cport.com until mail.cport.com was back up. Unfortunately, this is
not the case.
Is there a problem with my configuration? How do I let mail2.cport.com know
that it's okay to accept, store and forward mail for the other server?
Besides the host file and whatever is resolved via DNS, should any mention
be made of cport.com or mail2.cport.com in IMail's host configuration? Can
mail2.cport.com be mapped to any IP address on the machine or does it have
to be the primary IP address?
I know I'm probably grasping at straws, but I know I'm missing something and
neither IM-19980116-DM01.htm nor IM-19980116-JB14.htm appears to specify
anything other than what I have confgured already.
Any help would appreciated.
