You set up the old mail server to have the secondary DNS MX
record. The new Mail server should have the primary MX record (lower
number). You telnet in to the old mail server (from any machine) on port
25, then issue the command "ETRN @thedomainyouwanttodownload.com". The
remote server (Old) will do a DNS lookup and see that you are the primary and
will begin transferring all SMTP mail to your server. Since your server
will be receiving inbound SMTP mail it will treat it as any other inbound SMTP
mail and process it to the appropriate user. That simple
(disclaimer: As long as DNS is cool, remote server is ESMTP compatible,
all the world is singing the Coca-cola "Give the world a smile" song and your
Mail server is working and ready for action) and easy. Good

The only thing I need to transfer IS mail that is still
queued. Make more since now? Will ETRN do it, and how does it know
which domain to stick it on in imail?

I am not sure ETRN is going to do what you want.
ETRN is for retrieving mail from an SMTP server that has not yet delivered
that mail to a user (still queued). I think you may want to set up
IMAP clients and let the users pull their mail from account A to account B
before shutting off service with account A. Make sense?

I have a new customer that I will be doing mail for with
imail. I need to find out what the best way is to transfer all the
mail from their current server to imail. I have read about the ETRN
command, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about this
method? Is there any easier way? I already have multiple
domains setup on my imail server, how does imail know which domain to
transfer the mail to? I already have the domain setup in imail and
have created all the users. Any input is appreciated...
