Don't try this at home! Web Messaging goes to 100% processor utilization
and this kills the webmsg... phone rings, customer yells, you say try
again... web msg goes to 100% ...

Jeff,
That's a known problem, caused by the iwebmsg service going to 100%. It
happens to our mail server about once a month or so. We (and some other list
members) are using a workaround similar to this:
Use NT Performance Monitor to define an Alert "if %Processor Time of Process
iwebmsg.exe is over 90%, then run the batchfile kill_iwm.cmd".
The batchfile kill_iwm.cmd looks as follows:
rem -------------- Begin of Listing
@echo off
rem --- Change to utility path, Save actual path
pushd c:\batch
rem --- Kill process (kill.exe is a utility)
kill iwebmsg.exe
rem --- Restart IMail Web Service
net stop "IMail Web Service" /y
net start "IMail Web Service" /y
rem --- Write incident date and time to logfile (tm.exe is a utility)
tm /l >> alert-iw.log
echo. >> alert-iw.log
rem --- Restore path
popd
rem -------------- End of Listing
Then, save the alert definition into a .pma file and run this file from the
startup group of your mail server. Of course, this tool has to run in
foreground, which means you need to define an autologin if you want it all
automatized.
We're still using Imail 4.07. We bought the 5.0 version, but it is still
waiting on the shelves until this error is fixed (perhaps with release 5.07?
;-).
Good luck, Marius

Betreff: [IMail Forum] IMail 5.05 Dies
We have been fighting an issue for several days now with IMail 5.05. It
runs fine for several hours and then the processor on the system goes to
100% and the SMTP service dies. The most bizarre thing about this problem
is that we ran on 5.05 for almost a week with out any issues and now we
can't run for more than 2 or 3 hours. I've investigated every possible
cause I can think of from spammers to hackers but can't find aby evidence of
abuse on the system. We made no configuration changes to the system either.
We've run 4.0x for a long time and like the product but this is killing us.
If anyone has had any similar experience or advice please feel free to
reply. The process that most often runs out of control and kills the
processor is the web messaging but some times SMTP just dies. The system
is a dual PII 300 with 512MB of RAM and a 54GB hardware RAID array. There
are currently around 40,000 mailboxes on the system. Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jeff Madison
