I've seen users on this list indicate that they are using IMail and SQL 7.0.
And had phone calls with others. I cannot say that I use it nor say that
Ipswitch 'supports' it, but maybe others will respond.

If you cannot create users with the IMail Administrator, then I would say that
there is something wrong with your configuration of IMail, SQL, SQL User, ODBC
or the database table. When working, IMail will create a table (LET IT!!) in
the correct form and add the user 'root'. You should then see that user in
IMail Admin and be able to add other users.

As for the restart issue, from what I understand about the IMail and the dll,
the connection is opened when the Services start and remains open all the
time. Connection is also established for the SMTP32 (delivery) process and
that closes when the process does (may need as many as 30 of these at any
time!). I do not know what happens if the connection is broken from the other
end, but from what I've seen, IMail does not seem to 're-estiblish' the
connection unless the services are stopped and restarted. Of course a System
restart would do the same.
As to which is the most reliable, I'd still have to say (_MY opinion_) the
IMail database. Since there are less elements and points of failure, it
appears to be more robust. Any problems that have occured (very few that I've
been exposed to!) can be 'fixed' with standard tools and a guiding (or
Registry knowledgable) hand. All data is on one machine and easy to backup. It
is fastest (as near as I can tell).
