I'm quite unexperienced with Imail and have been having problems getting it
to work with SQL7. I have finally gotten it to "somewhat" work though am
still having difficulties.
1. I set all Imail services except system logger (see pg 17 --NOTE-- of
Imail manual) to use an account that has access to the external database via
control panel -> services.
2. I then configured a system DSN on the machine with Imail using ODBC
data sources in control panel, gave it a name, selected the server, used nt
authentication, checked change default database and selected the database I
wanted to use.
3. Went iinto Imail administrator, selected the virtual host, and
selected use external database and clicked apply.
4. Clicked the configure button, entered the path to imail's odbc driver
(ie. C:\IMAIL\ODBCUSER.DLL) in the "External Database Implementation DLL
box, typed in the system dsn name in the "ODBC Data Source Name Box" along
with uid, pwd and db statement (ie. MAILTEST; uid=username; pwd=password;
db=mail) , and then what did the trick for me was I deleted any text that
was in the "Table Name" box and left it blank. clicked ok and Imail created
its own table in the database using the virtual host name.
I can add users through Imail administrator and logon using web messaging,
but anytime that the connection is lost or if I create a user directly
through the database, I have to stop and restart the Imail web messaging
service in order to log in. That is as far as I have gotten so far, but
will add any new problems or breakthroughs as I go.
