You can do whatever you need to with LDAP from the IMAIL admin applet.  I have altered just about all of the LDAP components at one time or another and all has performed well.  If I remember rightly it is the far most right tab or next to right in the IMAIL admin app where you can view and edit the goods.

I believe LDAP reports the machine+domain name as a default.  I have had the same difficulty and have not found a way to fix it.  In general the Imail LDAP server seems a little "tacked on" and not that well sorted.  From responses on this list previously, I don't think many people are using it.  If somebody out there is an LDAP guru, please speak up...

Subject: [IMail Forum] LDAP responding user Email address plus "mailserv" tacked on.

I've just noticed that some of the more recent Users addrsses added to our mail system now showup in LDAP requests with [EMAIL PROTECTED]. The text "MailServer" was not there before , I'm wondering why we don't get [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the LDAP lookup result. Any Ideas.
