Samuel,   In order to configure the external database you need to do the following steps:   1.  Create a blank database 2.  Create an ODBC data source into the above database 3.  Go to the config screen for the domain in question and set it to use the data source created in Step 2 4.  Add a User.  If you get a Dr. Watson error.....re-check your configuration.  Something is wrong   When creating the user account make sure you have checked off the box 'Allow Web Access'.  It is selected by default(at least in 5.01 it is)   If this user was created in a sub-domain(virtual) then you will need to login with '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' to get into web messaging.   That's about it!  IMail can be tricky with the database config though.  I have found that on occasion it does NOT save the settings right away.  I have to go back in 2 and sometimes 3 times and apply my changes for it to actually work.  Once you have swapped from the IMail database to the external it's always a good idea to stop and start the IMail services to ensure that all references to the internal database have been cleared out as well.   Hope this helps!   Scott   -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Samuel Miller Sent: Monday, September 13, 1999 12:58 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] External Databases I have been a subscriber to this forum for two days now, and have seen some comments in regards to external databases. I posted some messages about login errors that were due to the way I set up the external database. Since I can deduce that external databases due work can someone tell me if there is anything special that I might have overlooked in the setup process. I created a blank database and an ODBC datasource. I can connect to the database and create user accounts using the IMAIL administrator, I can add records manually to the database and the users will then show up in the User Administrator. I can't send mail to them though or use web messaging to login. I have successfully implemented the Imail database option, but would like to use the external option.   Thanks in advance   Sam
