Thanks to all for all the help, I was able to send mail to the
boxes and stuff, so everything seems good to go, until I screw up the html
templates trying to customize the web interface ;)

I absolutely love Imail. I was
introduced to it about 1 year ago with version 4.04 at an ISP I was tech
support supervisor for. It is very easy to setup (except for databases)if you
use the standard stuff, handles alot of emails well. (IPswitch told us about
3,000 or more per minute on an intel PII 350 with 128mb ram). I found that
when it does have problems with hung messages all you have to do is go into it
thru the web based access and trash the offending message and away it goes.
I created a text file to explain to our
users how to use the web interface and to tell when a message is stuck and it
cut our email calls by 45%-50%. Besides they loved the fact that they could
access their email from any PC with Internet access. Heck we even incorporated
the adduser.exe program into a batch file that we were using at the time to
signup and register domains with Internic. It was great, signup a new domain,
create the nessecary web space on the unix box, then create the Imail domain
and default user on the NT box all in 1 step. They have since had someone
right a perl script to do it online but it still does the same thing only
prettier.

I had read that and set up the table like that. Then I
tried the default way which sets up a table for you, etc. funny thing is I
just deleted the tables that were in my database, changed the imail database
to the external database, set up three accounts , and the web messaging
login works, so now I am going to test out the mail box. The strange thing,
at least I find it strange, is the flag for just a web access user showed to
be 132. The web access with host administrator shows a flag of 388, and web
access with Imail administrator ability is 644. All three of these flag
numbers are completely different then the ones that were my first two table
tries. Anyways maybe it all works now, we'll see. I can say one thing this
product seems to be much better overall than SLmail / Emurl which is the
first product that I evaluated. I have to have this web based email system
up YESTERDAY,
so would everyone in this list generally agree that
Imail is the best product out there for the price.

Sam,
The order that the database
sends info to Imail is very important. I tried several things and found
that the flags setting needs to be last. Then I found the
following from a readme file I got from the ftp.ipswitch.com site. The exact path
once there is: /ipswitch/product_support/imail

The default ODBC table
consists of 7 entries:
USERID - text
PASSWORD - text
FULLNAME - text
USERDIR -
text
MAILADDR - text
MAXSIZE -
integer
MAXMSGS - integer
FLAGS -
integer
The provided implementation expects
these entries to be
in sequence. Additional information
(after flags) MAY
exist in the table.
BTW... I was reminded by Scott ( thank you
Scott :-) ) that 128 is the proper flag for web access...I
apologize

I saw some info in the user manual pdf file on
the flags, or maybe it was in the knowledge base, I did see that there
were certain numbers that you need, although I didn't quite understand
which ones were supposed to be used hex or dec. The numbers that Imail
Admin inserted into the database when I created the users didn't seem to
correspond to the numbering scheme. Are you saying that I need to like
maybe set the default value for the flag column to 130
before I ever create any users?

I ran into this also and
what I found out was that I was not setting the flags in the database
first. If I set them with Imail then I still could not login as the
user or send them email. But if I set them in the database first, I
could. After some playing around to see what the number would be I
came up with 130. That gives the user web access (http://site.com:8383). How I
discovered the correct flag for the parameters was I created users in
the user admin in Imail then looked at the database for the flags that
were set. Iam using an online web site to signup users and am using
hidden tags for the flags and mail message sizes. I would give the
address to you but I do not have it yet on a production machine. I am
testing and tweaking the setup internally. I am trying to get the
database to suggest a userid if the one they chose is already in
use.

I have been a subscriber to this forum for two
days now, and have seen some comments in regards to external
databases. I posted some messages about login errors that were due
to the way I set up the external database. Since I can deduce that
external databases due work can someone tell me if there is anything
special that I might have overlooked in the setup process. I created
a blank database and an ODBC datasource. I can connect to the
database and create user accounts using the IMAIL
administrator, I can add records manually to the database
and the users will then show up in the User Administrator.
I can't send mail to them though or use web messaging to login. I
have successfully implemented the Imail database option, but would
like to use the external option.
