If you are using 5.x and the list is moderated I would suggest
password protecting the moderator postings.  Look under
the security tab in Imail Admin and set it there.

After doing this when a moderator send mail to the list they must
use the following format in the subject.  [:password:] Subject of message.

They fixed this in one of the releases.  Not sure which.  I had
a slew hit here once all sent from <> and it made it to the moderated
list.

As for the other problem.  Make sure the address you are sending
from is listed as moderator or at least authorized subscriber.
