J.B. here is how I do this. I have a box set up with different
folders, we will call it adminstuff for simplicity. Under this
box I have sales, helpdesk, etc. The is a sales.inf which contains
the autoresponse for sales. There is a helpdesk.inf file that
contains the autoresponse message for helpdesk.

Now I create rules.ima for this box that look like this:

T~sales:sales
T~helpdesk:helpdesk

Now that my box is set up I set up my aliases. I have an
alias of sales that points to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
And a alias of helpdesk that points to the same address.

Now people are saying.. Why all the trouble?

In the adminstuff box I also have .fwd files. sales.fwd
contains the address of the person responsible for sales
with one catch. .,person@domain The period retains
a copy in the sales box for tracking purposes yet still sends
a copy to the person that is responsible for sales. Yet one
could still log in to adminstuff and handle any messages
from there.

So with a combination of rules, forwards and autoresponses
you could manage it pretty good.
