The first thing I would do (prior to sleuthing IP addresses), is review your
SMTP security settings. If you need to relay e-mail, enter those IP
addresses in "relay mail for" settings. This will prevent spammers from
hijacking your mail server to send their junk mail free of cost and with no
origin information ... other than your server address. Hence, your angry
e-mail messages this morning.
Also, although it is out of compliance, you may wish to refuse Null <>
senders.
