Yes this is true, however, Larry's port is stuck at 4.9.7. Last week on
the list he was asking for commitment from about 13 or so people to each
put up $100.00 to port Bind 8.x to NT.
There is no question that Microsoft DNS is far superior to Bind 4.x on NT
or Unix, this is especially true if you need dynamic DNS. However, the
questions I want to ask. If Larry Kahn is an excellent programmer, then
he is very valuable. His time would be worth something near $100 /
hour. How reliable a port could be accomplished in under 20 hours? How
much would be left over for support?
Bind for NT is Rock Solid. Microsoft DNS for NT is also rock solid and
has a much more intelligent user interface (GUI). It does some error
trapping and correcting that the Bind port does not do. It is also W2K
ready which the Bind port is not. To me it is a no brainer. I like
running mail on NT (IMail) and I like running DNS on NT.
I know it has a bad reputation from versions past. Now, it is totally
different. Give it a try before you knock it.
