While WS_FTP Pro is an Ipswitch product, this is not the list for that
product.
Since you've only asked one actual question, I will focus on that rather
than try to guess what other issues you may have.
More than likely, an ISP has instructed you to upload your web pages to a
certain location (they should provide you with this information) and that
your primary document should be named index.html. This means that you
should name your primary web document index.html so that your ISP's web
server can deliver that document when no document name has been specified
through the browser. This document is also known as the "default document".
WS_FTP behaves like a file manager. If you configure it with the
information given to you by your ISP, you should be able to navigate to the
location on their server where your files belong and copy files (including
index.html) from your local computer to the server. As long as you set the
correct directories on either end first (using WS_FTP's directory lists),
copying the files over should be as easy as selecting the files you want to
copy and clicking the arrow button that points to the server side of the
session window. Generally speaking, avoid ASCII mode and transfer
everything over as binary.
Also, if you search for them, there are tons of tutorials on WS_FTP
available on the web, many with screen shots. Although they won't be
specific to your ISP, I'm sure you'll find them helpful in the general
sense. Your ISP may even have such documents available. Of course, I would
also recommend browsing the Ipswitch website (www.ipswitch.com) for help.
