There was a recent review of a bunch of SMTP mail servers for NT --
including iMail and NTMail. This was in the November 1999 issues of Windows
NT Magazine and set as a review of SMTP mail servers for companies with
modest needs. iMail did not win -- in fact, no one won. The reviewer liked
WorldMail Server from Eudora, CommuniGate Pro from Stalker Software and
MailSite from Rockliffe.

His beef with iMail was that it was slow. In a through-put test, iMail was
consistently below all others (benchmarks are always something to be
reviewed before you make gross generalization, though). Even so, he
concludes his review of iMail "With a good list-server feature set, a
Web=based email client, multiple-server support, and a host of other
features, iMail Server can likely offer the functionality you need."

Now compare that to his final statement on NTMail -- "As a standalone
package, NTMail is my least favorite product of the six I tested. ... I
can't recommend NTMail." He pointed to price and configuration as two REALLY
bad areas.

Having been an NTMail user from its first version, I can tell you that the
current version is not one to look at. Their support is horrible and the
attitude is quite bad. Because of inadequate knowledge, their tech support
lead me down a path during my last (and I emphasize LAST) upgrade of NTMail
that left we totally without email. Their responses were consistently slow
and of little value -- typically accusing every other item in my system (OS,
drivers, hardware). Brian Dorcott (I may be misspelling that last name) was
the originator of NTMail and I purchased the first unlimited user license
from him with he first started selling NTMail. Toward the end of this
upgrade fiasco, Brian got involved, but only at an arm's length. I need
email and started looking around. I tested several and found the iMail
could do everything I needed and have been happy ever since.

Okay, so you wanted an opinion??
