Thanks for the tip.  I guess in the back of my mind, I was aware of disk 
monitoring, but we always had lots of disk space, so it didn't seem an issue. 
 The consumption of disk space in this case was rapid and unexpected.  I was 
hoping to find a way to recover the damaged mailboxes (aside from tape), but 
it looks like I'm out of luck.
