[IMail Forum] SQL Database

I have a site that has a SQL database of users&passwords and I want to
integrate IMail users to that one. When a new user submits my form to join
my community I add a new record to my database. Is it possible to add a user
by simlp adding a new record to IMail database if I choose external database
and point to my SQL Database?
