The problem is that you are not thinking clearly about how Email is delivered.
Think of SMTP as an envelope, your mail client as a piece of stationary, and
your POP or IMAP mailbox as your secretary. It is very easy to take a letter and
put it in an envelope and mail it out with postage. Now imagine that the sheet
of paper in the envelope simply said "come to my party", no signature, to return
address, etc... Your recipient's secretary opens all his/her mail and simply
takes the piece of paper and sticks in their in-basket. Your recipient looks at
the message and can't figure out who its from or whether or not it was really
intended for them.

It is the same way with Email. You must include proper message headers as well
as a good SMTP envelope in order for the message to be properly understood by
the recipient.
