[IMail Forum] Message list design

Has anyone had any luck in changing the formatting of the MessageSummary and
MailboxSummary tags?

I've tried reading the tag into a java script variable and then running
replace on the variable and finally displaying it, but I have had no
positive results.  I would appreciate any code snippets/comments/experience
that one could share.
