We have just experienced a very worrying problem with IMail ...

Under SMTP security, we use the option to deliver a copy of all email to one
mailbox. This is primarily used to keep a backup of all messages for each
day incase someone accidently deletes them from their account. The mailbox
for this account was becoming very big (1.5 GB) because we hadn't cleared it
out, and the account began to bounce back emails.

First problem this created was that it bounced back the message to the
person who had sent the email originally. So the email path went like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] sends email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

smtp server sends email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

email reaches [EMAIL PROTECTED] but doesn't reach
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

bounce back sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This was very confusing because the email had still reached the destination
but couldn't reach the backup mail account. So we then decided to go into
the SMTP security tab and remove the 'Copy all email' tab and delete the
account that the mail was sent to. Then the trouble started ...

All bounce back messages that the server had been trying to send to the
backup email account no longer had an account to go to .... so they bounced
backed multiple emails to DIFFERENT people. This meant that people were
getting bounce back emails for emails they had never sent. These bounce
backs were also sent to people external of our company, which is very
worrying for security issues. The emails that were included in the bounced
backed message were completely random.

Can anyone explain this?
