Regarding (1):

Outlook uses two different address book routines depending upon which mode of
operation is currently being run. When using the Internet Only mode, Outlook uses the
Outlook Express Address Book, which utilises an LDAP server better than the Address
Book used in the Corporate/Workgroup mode.

To get the display name to show, run Outlook in Internet Only mode and install the
latest version of IE to get the Outlook Express Address Book (or get the latest
version of Outlook Express) - earlier versions of Outlook Express Address Book also
did not work well.

This is the best method I have found to-date for getting the LDAP info to display
correctly.

Regarding (2):

We have found that being able to have Outlook correctly validate a name keyed into the
"To:" field of a new message, there is a reduced need to have a complete Address Book.
Once we got (1) above going, we are able to key in a name and press <ctrl>K to have
Outlook check for the name in the LDAP directory.

I believe there are some third-party products available that will build and maintain a
local copy of an LDAP directory. They do cost a packet, though.

Subject: [IMail Forum] LDAP and Outlook

This may have come up a while back, but I can't find it. We're starting to use
Outlook 2000 the Corporate/Workgroup Version and Imail v5.08 and when we configure
LDAP the display name is blank. Using the Internet Mail Only version at least gives
us a correct display name, but you can not save the results and have to do a lookup
each time. So my questions are: 1). How can we get the display name to show? and 2).
Is there a way to automatically build an address book from the LDAP each time the
client logs in?
Thanks,
