I have a user account that is not accepting mail any longer.  When I look at the user 
I see that mailbox status is mailbox size 0; uidlfile exists; uidlfile incorrect.  I 
have deleted the account and re-added the account and nothing changes.  The previous 
mail is still in the mailbox and it is still un-available for access. 


This is not a version 6 problem I am still running 5.5. 

My questions are what caused the problem, how can it be prevented and how can this 
user account be repaired?    

Note:  I noticed that the problem could be solved by stopping and restarting SMTP or 
POP3.  This still does not explain how it happened.
