Ron, two things you can do with the machine which is having this problem:

1) install SP6a from Microsoft
2) after rebooting, go to Control Panel --> Regional Setting -->  Date tab
and under short date style, choose this format MM/yy/yyyy.  Make sure click
Apply and Ok after you make the change.
