I am using an external database with 6.01 and have had this problem since I
first started using Imail 5.04. Knowledgebase article IM-19990730-DM02
gives a work around, but it didn't work for me. When I followed your
suggestion and used the console I found that it had picked up the whole name
as the first name. After I fixed it, the LDAP query worked (just like you
said). I put in a technical support request long ago and the only answer I
got was blaming it on MS Outlook. I won't set up my users to use LDAP until
they fix this and it's a real pain. The free LDAP server I had when I used
qpopper and Sendmail on Linux worked perfectly. Of course it didn't have
web messaging, vacation messages, etc. which is why I am now using Imail.

Anyone have any input on this issue?
