Well I seem to have figured this one out on my own. When we upgraded our BrightMail software last week something happened to the bmisink601.dll file which handles smtp. I did 'regsrv32 /u bmisink601.dll' then 'regsvr32 bmisink601.dll' and have been up and running fine for the last 5hrs.

just putting that out there to help someone else in case they are in this situation.

Can anyone help me out on this one?

We are running BrightMail spam filter which uses a Virtual SmtpSvc to handle things. Just today it has been stalling every few minutes. I have to restart the service to get mail moving every few minutes.
