Hi Dave,
According to
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/[EMAIL PROTECTED] the e-mail
address is valid and receives a 250 Recipient OK response.

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=ewing1.comChecking shows
their reverse DNS (for their MX) as mail.ewing1.com at an IP address of
12.9.131.198.

They appear to be running a PIX firewall with the smtp fixup protocol
enabled. In the logs you posted, notice that the response is HELO rather
than EHLO. Since I don't have a PIX, I'm *guessing* you are getting the
ewlnm01.ewing1.com from the PIX firewall since it is intercepting the SMTP
conversation. This is likely causing the HELO/EHLO problems you are seeing
and causing your verify tests to fail.

I'm not sure if there is a way to correct this on your end, (maybe a HOST
file entry for mail.ewing1.com?) since the best fix is to disable the SMTP
protocol on the PIX. Perhaps there is a Cisco guru lurking here that can
help out.

As usual, YMMV, yadda, yadda, yadda
HTH,
~Patrick
