I've always thought that if it won't fit on a floppy, don't email it.

If the message exceeds the size, then yes, the message is bounced back to
the sender with an appropriate error message.

Where does it go? Or does it (can it?) trigger some kind of notification to
the sender?

yep...look in the IMail admin app, at the general tab for a particular host.
See the Single Message Max Size field? Put a value in bytes in that field.

There's a separate registry key for outbound size.

It's in HKLM/Software/Ipswitch/IMail/Domains/<domain name here>

The Key name is MaxOutboundSize. This is a DWORD and should be entered in
bytes. Or leave it zero for unlimited.

Darin.

Is there a way to limit the size of emails?
I have an account, [EMAIL PROTECTED], that was intended for legit
company business, but anythime something like the recent hurricane (tsumani,
9/11 attacks), we have the people who feel obligated to send a 5MB
powerpoint slideshow, or something along those lines, that will bog the mail
server down.
As I write this, I'm watching Outlook try to download a 7.3MB file!
