Yep, that should work fine.  I assumed you changed both the numbered virtual
key and the Key name under Domains?

I just changed the name the virtual host from domain.com to
domainold.com in the registry then restarted the services.  Hopefully
that will work.

No,  that  won't work. The HOSTS is consulted after the local host and
host alias list.

This  one  of  many  reasons  why  it  is appropriate to have a unique
hostname  as the OHN of the virtual host, with the default mail domain
as  a  host  alias.  If  you  remove  the alias, you do not affect the
ability  of  users to log in to retrieve old mail, while new mail will
be routed off-box.
