I use Blackice on my smartermail server and have used it for several years. I was the person who originally shared the information with this list on how to configure it for dictionary attacks.
Blackice hasn't had any problem keeping up on my system. What version of blackice are you running? Imail is a pig and my guess is it's probably more of an imail issue.
