The ability to decrypt the password allows us to have a recover password form. You may say it is more secure to have the password reset and send the user a temporary password so they can then make a new password. But what is the difference you are still sending them a password in an email.
Also company policy dictates I do password complexity checking. If I can not decrypt the password then I can not check to see if the password meets the requirements. Imail does not have password complexity settings for the imail registry database. The ability to encrypt the password allows us to set the user account password from a web service, accessable from a secure site.
