Here's the sequence

"T" & "D" files created at the MAIL FROM command
IMail receives the "." (EOM) sends back a 250 Message Queued and renames the "T" to a "A" for Antispam processing
"A" is renamed to "Q" and handed off to the Delivery Application

Any "T" files in the spool are in 1 of 2 states. Locked and busy as the message is still coming in or orphaned due to a broken connection.

Hope this helps

Not sure what you mean by all attempts, but each session creates T and Q
files. When the session completes/message is completely received, the T
file is renamed to a D file and the Queue Manager can take action on the
file pair.

Are the T files created for each failure? Or only after it fails all
attempts?

Just delete them. The sending mail server should have established a new
session since this one was interrupted.

Thank you very much for your answer.
What do you suggest I should do? Manually rename the T files to Q files
every time I see them sitting there?. And keep an eye on the spool directory
on a daily basis to rename the files when necessary?. Is there a way to
automate the process or prevent T files and their corresponding D files sit
in the spool for hours. Or I should just forget about them?

T files are temporary files that were never completed by
SMTPD. The client could have timed out or something else
causing failure in communications, but a 250 OK was never
sent to the client so the files have not been accepted for delivery.
