FYI, there is an open source project that has just hit the ground running. It is called RoundCube, and it is an open source IMAP webmail app. It is based on the current technology-of-the-month AJAX. It is still in its early stages, but it is looking very nice. I originally set it up on our FreeBSD/Postfix/Courier-IMAP server as the webmail portion of that server (it will be replacing Imail completely once all testing is done). It is not yet feature rich, but the development seems to be moving quickly at this point because they recently got a lot of blog publicity and they got several new volunteers to work on it. I tested out every open source IMAP webmail app that I could find on Sourceforge and it was by far the best design of all of them. And the price is right...
