Kevin,

That functionality sounds like you got it right, but I might suggest that you have the GUI configuration target specifically only certain automatically created folders and not a user's entire account.  You could let administrators use the command line to clean beyond these base directories.

FYI, SmarterMail allows you to configure each of the built-in folders independently, and it also gives the end-users and domain administrators the ability to override the auto-clean settings.  That certainly fixes issues where a single exception (customer) ruins the entire setup, but this might be far beyond what you were thinking, and I'm sure that most everyone would appreciate having this added functionality as described.  Adding exceptions though would be something to also consider, i.e. another command line switch to ignore folders with a certain string in them.

Hi All,

excellent request - makes perfect sense. Scripting is nice but being able
to configure via gui, at domain level, would be nice.

regarding this one - "To have "the" spam folder auto delete action triggered
on the percentage of the size compared to either the mailbox size or the
percentage free size."

How does this sound?

1. Set max and "delete down to" size limits. Use Case: When box hits 20MB,
delete oldest messages until size is 10MB.
2. Ad IMail Message Expunger (immsgexp.exe) capability to gui with options
to delete all mail older than x days or older than #DATE# such as Jan 1,
2005.

bye for now,

kg

sub-mailbox after X number of days

I missed the size requirement in my prior post, but this could be scripted
fairly easily. Just check the size of the mailbox file and run the utility
to delete email x days old if needed.

Darin.

Mike,

This is a great feature in SmarterMail, especially for Sent and Trash
folders (I block spam elsewhere).

I would expand on it though to also allow the deletion by date as well
as according to size. SmarterMail lacks the date functionality and it
would be a nice thing to have. IMail has a utility that can handle the
dates, but it has to be run from the command line currently and would
benefit from some GUI stuff in addition to the size and per domain settings.

I don't know if this has been requested. I would like the ability to
automatically delete messages in a sub-mailbox after that mailbox
reaches a certain amount (in megabytes). It would delete the oldest
messages first. SmaterMail has this ability and I really find it useful.
For example:
I route my clients email that fails my SPAM tests to the clients
sub-mailbox called SPAM. I don't trust that my client will actually
delete his/her unwanted mail. I have my threshold set to 20MB. So I
would like to have the messages in the SPAM sub-mailbox deleted from
20MB+, to let's say 10MB (deleting the oldest messages first). That
way if the client doesn't actively get rid of their mail in the SPAM
sub-mailbox, it will go way on it's own. So the client will always
have between 10MB and 20MB of their most recent potential SPAM on hand
(so they do have some time to look at it). I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Mike
