Thanks for the link to the article on aspfaq...it refreshed my memory. .NET did make some efforts to "fix" the session variables/non-persistent cookies issues addressed in that article, but there are some still stored that way as Session Cookies.
 
Your users can disable acceptance of all cookies in IE so long as they have the "Always Allow Session Cookies" (see attached .jpg) enabled. If this is not enabled, the login screen will permit the entry of data, but when 'Login' is clicked the page will "flash" but not return anything - including an error - except a brand new blank form. Perhaps this is the behavior they're reporting.
 
Firefox does not have the specific setting for session cookies present in IE, but you can add the url of the mail server to the 'exceptions' list.
 
Again, is cookies being disabled the common denominator for the users reporting the problem? Can any users log in to the client - externally - to either a virtual or non-virtual domain?
