Nothing makes it a requirement. 1.82 is working fine for me. It doesn't work as well for some others, because Imail 8.2 and above use a multithreaded SMTP engine and Declude was originally designed with the assumption that it would be running with a single-threaded SMTP engine. In many cases this was causing problems (although I didn't have any and can't speak for those that did). Declude 3 was rewritten to take advantage of (and resolve the problems caused by) the multi-threaded SMTP engine. So to avoid any issues between a single-threaded Declude and a multi-threaded Imail, you may want to go with the latest Declude version 3.x.
