Then it is most likely time to start looking at the physical layer.  If they
are on the same LAN and subnet you need to look at the NIC on the server and
possibly the switch and any other hardware in the scope.  To me it sounds
like you have a NIC going.  Best to capture some data on the wire to see
what's happening.  Use something like Ethereal and see if anything is
getting dropped or munged at the connection to the server.

Some outbound and sometimes they never leave the server. I have seen
corruption between the imail and the gateway which are on the same lan
segment.
