I'm still confused about the use of the valid from test.
It's a good test to divert junk mail, but it's also catching good
messages because of temporary issues with the other mail server.
1. Because blank froms are allowed/required by RFC (right?), can IMail
not consider blanks as failures?

<mail.robinsonmfg.com> VALIDATION: (MAIL FROM) <> user does not exist on
remote system
2. If the other mail server used to check the from is busy or if my
server fails the other server's spam tests, can IMail deal with an
inconclusive result?

user does not exist on remote system
Is there a difference between 'the user does not exist' and 'you're
messed up; i'm not going to tell you' or (as above) 'i can't talk now'?
Also:
Does IMail run any spam tests before it acknowledges data received? I
want to use rules.ima to reject messages and to stop using the smtpd
access list as it brings up the question of whether the sender host can
actually communicate with my server. Giving the sender host an actual
error message seems more 'polite'.
