If using firewall like cisco pix maybe causing issue with smtp.
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/110/mailserver_dmz.html I think someother
firewalls use fixup protocol smtp 25 too.  I seen your web site, very good,
so I would think you have all the other ordinary items checked, ie:
defragment, raid levels, processor usage, available ram, etc.  Could
mxGaurd/ClamAV be causing the smtpd32 issues?  What do IMail logs show?
