The computer's full name is ns.pixel8.com, and I do have an A record for
it. Since Sandy said in his email that he hasn't had any issues with the
2003 DNS MMC, it may be that something is corrupt in my implementation. I
may blow it away and start over (just to see if there is a change). But
for now, the main DNS does work, it's just that one part that doesn't.

it self does not have an 'A' record. If the machines name is actually 'ns'
then you would need an 'A' record for 'ns' but if you have named it
something else then you will need an a record for that name.
Look in My Computer -> Properties -> Computer Name Tab -> Full Computer Name
Does this have an 'A' record?
