I was able to duplicate this using ICS V2 and am checking using 2006.01. I'll report it as a problem, if 2006.01 has no effect. 2006.01 does not fix this...added to defect database.
As a work around, it appears you can create an alias like "techno_man" then using regedit, rename it to "techno.man". As for user accounts, I've created and used ones with a "." without trouble with both versions.
